Muscle Monday!

Writer: Emily O'BrienEmily O'Brien

We are looking at the Wrist Flexors. The 3 main wrist flexors are Flexor Carpi Radialis, Palmaris Longus and Flexor Carpi Ulnaris.

They originate on the lower, medial end of the humerus and insert on to the Carpals, Metacarpals and Phalanges (Yes that is a real word for finger and toe bones)

As it says in their name, these muscles flex the wrist. The Flexor Carpi Radialis also abducts the wrist and Flexor Carpi Ulnaris adducts the wrist. Common problems when muscles are chronically tight or overused are Golfers Elbow (Medial Epicondylitis) and Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.

🎾 To massage use your opposite forearm to massage up and down the length of the forearm. See Video 1.

🧘🏽‍♀️To stretch, using the opposite hand, floor or a table, with the palm out or face down, fingers to the floor or towards the body, gently stretch the forearm. See Video 2.

💪🏼You can use weights, water bottle or a can. Arms out in front of you, palms up. Use the weight to flex the wrists. See Video 3.
